VIVA Alliance is currently inviting expressions of interest for its Board of Directors as the organization enters a new phase of growth and development.
As a Vancouver-based visual arts non-profit, VIVA Alliance creates space for artists through exhibitions, public programming, and community-driven initiatives. As our activities expand, we are building a board of thoughtful contributors and leaders who can support the organization’s direction, sustainability, and broader reach.
This call includes information regarding:
VIVA Alliance’s vision, mission, and organizational direction
The role and responsibilities of Board Directors
Board expectations, accountability, and level of commitment
The nomination and selection process
New Directors will be selected and confirmed following the review process and formalized at the organization’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
VIVA Alliance believes its work is strengthened by a diverse, engaged, and skilled Board of Directors that reflects a range of experiences, perspectives, and professional backgrounds within the arts and broader community.
We encourage artists, cultural workers, and professionals who are interested in governance, community engagement, and supporting the long-term sustainability of artist-centered initiatives to consider contributing their voice, experience, and leadership to VIVA Alliance.
Board members will play a key role in governance and strategic thinking, offering guidance, oversight, and support across different areas of the organization. This includes contributing to long-term planning, strengthening networks, and supporting the continued visibility of artists and programming.
Responsibilities include:
Contributing to the strategic direction and future development of VIVA Alliance
Participating in board meetings and key organizational discussions
Acting as ambassadors for the organization within professional and community networks
Offering insight and leadership based on individual experience
Supporting the organization’s sustainability through advocacy, networking, partnerships, sponsorship outreach, and, where appropriate, fundraising initiatives
Commitment:
1–2 year term (renewable)
Core commitment of approximately 3–6 hours per month
Participation in 4 board meetings annually
Engagement with key events and programs when possible
Opportunities to contribute more actively through committees or project-based work (such as grant development, financial management, budgeting, networking initiatives, partnerships, or sponsorship outreach), depending on expertise and availability
This is a volunteer-based (unpaid) position
We are seeking individuals who are:
Established or emerging leaders in the visual arts, cultural sector, public sector, or related fields
Practicing artists, curators, writers, educators, or cultural workers, as well as professionals with experience in governance, communications, partnerships, organizational development, financial management, or budgeting
Interested in contributing to a community-driven arts organization through perspective, experience, and networks
Committed to supporting artists and fostering meaningful cultural exchange
Experience with grant writing, partnerships, networking, sponsorship development, financial oversight, or budgeting is an asset
