As a Vancouver-based visual arts non-profit, VIVA Alliance creates space for artists through exhibitions, public programming, and community-driven initiatives. As our activities expand, we are building a board of thoughtful contributors and leaders who can support the organization’s direction, sustainability, and broader reach.

New Directors will be selected and confirmed following the review process and formalized at the organization’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

VIVA Alliance believes its work is strengthened by a diverse, engaged, and skilled Board of Directors that reflects a range of experiences, perspectives, and professional backgrounds within the arts and broader community.

We encourage artists, cultural workers, and professionals who are interested in governance, community engagement, and supporting the long-term sustainability of artist-centered initiatives to consider contributing their voice, experience, and leadership to VIVA Alliance.

Board members will play a key role in governance and strategic thinking, offering guidance, oversight, and support across different areas of the organization. This includes contributing to long-term planning, strengthening networks, and supporting the continued visibility of artists and programming.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the strategic direction and future development of VIVA Alliance

  • Participating in board meetings and key organizational discussions

  • Acting as ambassadors for the organization within professional and community networks

  • Offering insight and leadership based on individual experience

Commitment:

  • 1–2 year term (renewable)

  • Core commitment of approximately 3–6 hours per month

  • Participation in 4 board meetings annually

  • Engagement with key events and programs when possible

  • Opportunities to contribute more actively through committees or project-based work (such as grant development, financial management, budgeting, networking initiatives, partnerships, or sponsorship outreach), depending on expertise and availability

  • This is a volunteer-based (unpaid) position

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Established or emerging leaders in the visual arts, cultural sector, public sector, or related fields

  • Practicing artists, curators, writers, educators, or cultural workers, as well as professionals with experience in governance, communications, partnerships, organizational development, financial management, or budgeting

  • Interested in contributing to a community-driven arts organization through perspective, experience, and networks

  • Committed to supporting artists and fostering meaningful cultural exchange

  • Experience with grant writing, partnerships, networking, sponsorship development, financial oversight, or budgeting is an asset
