4
The artists represented in this exhibition entitled “4” first became acquainted as work colleagues in the film industry in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The demanding and collaborative nature of working together as artists for decades often brought them together as a team, forging strong friendships and a deep mutual respect for each other’s artistic talents. Though each of them works with different subjects, media, and artistic preoccupations, their paintings reveal a common and dedicated interest in exploring the limits of representation—of space, volume, light, atmosphere. At the heart of their work is a drive to create visual poetry and meaning--they are “painters’ painters”.
TO LOVE OR NOT TO LOVE
To Love or Not to Love is an original absurd play-within-a-half-musical inspired by Nezami Ganjavi’s timeless Persian romance Khosrow and Shirin. Set inside a contemporary rehearsal room, the play follows a group of actors as they attempt to stage the ancient love story, only to find their own relationships, desires, and unresolved pasts gradually intertwining with the myth they are performing.
AFTERIMAGE
Afterimage is a group exhibition showing works that engage with the theme of transference—the passage of something from one place, surface, person, or time to another. In psychotherapy, transference is also used to describe the phenomenon when feelings or desires meant for an important figure from our past land on someone new. We invited artists to reflect on what we have inherited from those who came before, what we are in the process of passing on, what the body knows before the mind, and what we carry across a threshold, a border, and a state of being.
