Speplól Tanya Zilinski facilitated by curator Maryam Babaei | July 26 at 1:00PM

  • VIVA Alliance 353 Railway Street Vancouver, BC, V6A 1A4 Canada (map)

Held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 | 1:00–2:00 PM | Medias Res Gallery

This artist talk took place in conjunction with Spirit Maps, a solo exhibition by Speplól Tanya Zilinski, presented at Medias Res Gallery from July 18 to August 3, 2025. Facilitated by curator Maryam Babaei, the conversation offered insight into Zilinski’s artistic process and the conceptual underpinnings of their work.

Spirit Maps features a series of handwoven beadworks rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems and improvisational abstraction. Guided by spirit and informed by chaos theory, Zilinski’s compositions explore ancestral memory, cultural continuity, and a practice where resilience is embedded in both the process and the medium. Each beadwork reflects a deep engagement with the mind, body, and spirit, and the transformative power of slow, intentional creation.

This exhibition and event were presented by VIVA Alliance and supported by the Government of British Columbia.
