Rojina Farrokhnejad (RJ) is a Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist. As a painter, sculptor, and filmmaker, her work focuses on capturing evocative images of memories and metamorphosis, expressions of solitude, and moments of importance that connect with the audience’s experiences. She engages with myth to explore the darker side of human nature and to compose allegories that carry layered, concealed meanings. She uses multiple mediums, such as oil, acrylic and clay, through a variety of techniques to achieve movements, colours, tones, and textures that help her convey a narrative. The vignette represented at this exhibition represents a section of Rojina’s studio where eclectic artistic influences and disciplines come together, sometimes clashing sometimes harmonizing, to give an expression the artist’s feelings of uncertainty and internal turmoil. Rojina’s works have been exhibited at grunt gallery, Gallery Gachet, the Cultch, and the SUM Gallery in Vancouver. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University and is a recipient of the DTES Small Arts grant.
