Sara Janti
After the Women’s Life Freedom movement , my art has evolved.
I began painting self-portraits to express my identity as one of the women of my country, merging my image with elements of traditional miniature paintings.
Historically, in these artworks, women were often shown as caretakers, preparing food, supporting men, while men were shown as warriors and fighters.
By combining my self-portrait with these historical motifs, I reclaim the narrative: today, women are fighters too. This fusion of past and present reflects strength, resilience, and the redefined role of women in our society.
About the Artist
Born in Tehran, Iran, Sara Janti is a talented interior designer, mixed media artist, and jewelry designer currently based in Southern California.
From a young age, Sara has felt a profound connection to the act of creating. Her recent works narrate her personal journey and experiences as an Iranian woman living in the diaspora.
Inspired by the recent movements in Iran and the pivotal role of Iranian women within them, Sara blends imagery from ancient Iranian artifacts with self-portraits. This fusion has produced a compelling series that highlights the struggle of Iranian women in their fight for fundamental human rights.
Her mixed media pieces serve as a poignant commentary on the current state of affairs and their impact on our lives.
Sara's artwork has been showcased both nationally and internationally. She earned a BA in English literature and graduated from the interior architectural design program at Santa Monica College.
